New Gallery Director
PixelArt is coming of age at dA now with the inclusion of a Gallery Director whose sole responsibility is PixelArt and the promotion of it as a beautiful and interesting artform.
I have come to this position as GD with PixelArt somewhat in the doldrums. Many of the established Pixel Artists have abandoned dA for their various reasons over the last few years. This has now left us a wonderful area of possibility to rebuild a strong and talented PixelArt community at dA.
Focus
My aim is to focus on gathering together a large, active community of Pixel Artists who will demonstrate to the wider art community the beauty and joy of Pixel Art and in so doing grow the respect for PixelArt itself, as an unique and interesting style of digital art. The effort and time needed to create a good quality piece of PixelArt can be quite substantial often into the tens of hours of close focused work. It is a very labor intensive form of art.
First Things First
One of the major complaints about PixelArt at dA has been the PixelArt Galleries and all the non PixelArt that fills the pages. They tend to be filled with miscats of deviants who assume if they used pixels in the work then it must be PixelArt. So the regular and dedicated reporting and shifting of miscats will go a long way to helping the faith to return about dA's commitment to PixelArt and the Pixel Artists.
Friends of PixelArt
As the PixelArt galleries can often be overwhelmed at times with new miscats I am hoping to get a dedicated team who may or may not be Pixel Artists but have a knowledge of what PixelArt is and is not to give a little of their time to report miscats. This will help keep the Galleries in order. I have asked that I be the one to handle the reported miscats so that I can see those dedicated souls who are being so generous with their time and putting in reports.
May I take this opportunity to thank daporta, darkmoon3636, Jam02 and PurpelBlur for the amazing amount of time they have spent reporting miscats. I am sure there are many more folk who need thanking as well. As I see your names in the reports I will make the effort to recognize your support. It is a boring and thankless task but it is so very important to the building of a strong PixelArt scene at dA.....PixelArt needs you to go press those report buttons.
PixelArt and DDs
Every Gallery Director has a set of guidelines for their own Galleries choices for awarding DDs. I am trying to put in a PixelArt DD every day. On a rotating basis, I am choosing an Isometric, non isometric and a doll. My aim is to choose pieces which are appealing to the eye and have a high standard of pixel work. This in my opinion is important in establishing a respect for PixelArt and encouraging potential Pixel Artists to try it out. Once the PixelArt bug bites it can be a very Zen experience. Because we have so few PixelArtists from whom to choose work, it may well be a case of me giving a DD to someone who may have had what appears, more than their fair share. I make no apologies for this, I am seeking to demonstrate excellence, not mediocrity. If I am kicked for this, so be it. I am not promoting friends....I am promoting PixelArt at dA, this is my number one priority.
Suggesting a DD
Please keep them within a 6 to 9 month time frame of contribution....none more than 12 months old.
I prefer to promote artists who are active members on dA still contributing work and visiting.
At the moment I am only awarding Dolls with original bases a DD but this may change after consulting with the dollmakers.
PixelArt Dolls
I have been asked when will dA sort out the doll category in PixelArt...... this is an area long overdue for revue. To date I haven't held any discussions about this with those who will instigate changes but I have gone back over the discussions held recently and in the past about this on the PixelArt Forum. I feel I have a pretty good grasp about the subject and will be able to offer reasonable suggestions. Once we get underway with all the new GD's settled in, I expect changes will happen quickly in this area.
Competitions and Activities
There will be competitions for PixelArt but we need to gather more Pixel Artists together and create a point of communication so competitions will be well supported. Hopefully this will happen fairly soon and perhaps people would like to give me some feedback about the sort of competitions that would appeal.
DDs I have awarded to July 12th

So, if I understand correctly, you would like people to send you a note of the Miscats thus you may judge and take any actions necessary.

I will see how that is proceeding but I think studies may be causing a bit of a focus loss on the Grid Collab 2.....as they should!

The way to handle miscats is to press the violation button under the thumbnail number on the deviation. I will then see it on a list and move it.
