Artist's Comments

So often I find myself trying to explain why JPEG files should not be used for PixelArt and how a JPEG file will destroy a piece of PixelArt.

DarkPsymon was generous enough to allow me to use his 'London Pixel Scene' [link] as an example of the difference between saving in JPEG as opposed to PNG. I have enlarged the work 700% in order to make it clear what happens with the two different files.

GIF is horrible in Paint though...it goes funny and there is very bad color loss.

Well I am hoping that this will make it a bit clearer for them.

Oh, Really?
I have never experienced that with GIF, but I don't use MS paint. I use Jasc Animation Shop for my pixeling.

I don't have trouble with GIF in Photoshop either, it just happens in Paint. It is a real nuisance, I like to use Paint occasionally. Paint is brilliant for iso work.

File formats, serious business! :shakefish::lol:

On the topic of programs, have you ever tried GraphicsGale*? It's simple, tidy, and it has... LAYERS! Great alternative to Photoshop, as it doesn't hog computer resources. [link]

*You can't export files as GIFs in the free version; I'm not sure about PNG. I generally export my work as bitmaps and open them in ImageReady.

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you ever tried.

=D! Thank you for sharing that info.
I could never understand why my pictures went all weird after I saved.

I must try that program one day, a number of people have mentioned it....in fact I really should find time to experiment with a few programs around at the moment.

I've had that happen to me all too often. I used to use BitMaps, though.

That's me lower right. When the photographer took my picture he asked me to act naturally, so I yelled at him to stop disgracing his family and get a real job.
