So, you mentioned that dithering is the essence of true pixel art. What does it mean for us pixelers that DON'T use the dithering technique when we shade?
Anyway - nicely explained.

The main short definition for PixelArt is that the majority of pixels be hand laid using the pencil tool on a click by click basis. Not all PixelArt is dithered, this does not mean it is not PixelArt, just that it isn't that very original essence of PixelArt as it was first created.
However there is a growing tendency for people to use brushes to paint on their work and this is where we come to a point of when is it a digital art drawing and painting and when is it PixelArt?
When I am faced with this dilemma of work which has obviously been brushed on, that is when I look for the tiny hand laid details as in your style of work or dithering to distinguish PixelArt from DigitalArt.
I walk in dangerous places but someone has to do it.

I've seen some of your explanations and I like them all.
Are you going to do some more?
And another question...I've uploaded one of the screenshots from my game to my gallery. It's all sprited but I overlayed a map for light and shadow (a seperate image). Does it still belong into the pixealrt category then?

You're a spriter? You want to create a game? You want to do that with an experienced team?
Send me a note with one of your works and I will give you a chance!

I had a look at your work and you have added a transparency right? This is something that really moves it out of the genuine PixelArt area. You could have done this without a transparency just have the shade the transparency has created and use it as a solid color on your work. It wouldn't have quite the same look but that is the challenge for a top pixelartist. I love your work it is beautiful. So yep it probably should live in another gallery....I will leave it up to you to decide which one....don't let it get buried in the wrong category...this is work worth seeing.
